Google is rolling out new AI features to make holiday shopping quick and hassle-free. The update adds conversational search capabilities, price automation, and an agentic system that can check availability in nearby stores and complete purchases on behalf of users.
The biggest difference is now visible in Google Search’s AI Mode. There’s no need to type long keywords or open multiple websites. People can simply explaine what they’re looking for in simple language, and the job is done. Google then displays photos, prices, reviews, and stock information all together on one clear page. When someone wants to compare similar items, Google also shows neat tables that clearly display the differences, such as how the product feels, what material it uses, or what customers say about it. These results are powered by Google’s Shopping Graph, which tracks more than fifty billion products and updates millions of listings every hour.
The Gemini app in the United States is also receiving shopping support. Users can ask Gemini for gift ideas, compare products, and make lists without switching apps. The answers include product cards you can shop from, price details, and links to buy directly.
Another new feature adds an agent that can call nearby shops for people searching for items available in local stores. When someone looks for a product near them, Google may show an option that lets it automatically call stores to ask about stock and price. This feature uses Duplex technology and larger Gemini models to choose stores, ask questions, and send results through text or email. It is starting in the US for electronics, toys, and beauty items.
Google is also improving its price tracking and checkout system. After users set their preferred model, colour, size, and price limit, they will get an alert when the price matches their budget. For some retailers, Google can even complete the checkout using Google Pay after the user agrees. This currently works with Wayfair, Chewy, Quince, and some Shopify stores through Search and AI Mode.
Google says these features will save time by avoiding things like checking prices again and again, switching between many tabs, and calling different stores. The updates are rolling out slowly in the US and will expand to more countries in the future.
